It was founded by the late Gujarmal Modi for the pursuit of scientific research which could relieve India from its burden of poverty.

The institute is committed towards the upliftment of the backward and less fortunate. Under a Government recommended scheme, around 30 villages in Ghaziabad, Meerut and Rai Bareli have benefited from a mass education campaign.

Along with the National Society for Prevention of Blindness - affiliated to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences the Centre conducts surveys and studies eye diseases.
